Indian Super League side Bengaluru FC on Wednesday appointed former India senior men’s team head coach Savio Medeira as the club’s head of youth development.

The move is part of the club’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its player pathway from grassroots levels to the senior team.

Medeira brings over two decades of experience in coaching, technical development, and coach education across Indian and international football. He has previously worked with the Indian national team in multiple roles under the All India Football Federation, including stints as head coach and assistant coach. During his tenure, he was part of setups that won the SAFF Championship in 2011, the Nehru Cup, and the AFC Challenge Cup.

At the club level, Medeira had a successful run with Salgaocar Sports Club, guiding them to multiple Goa Professional League titles between 2002 and 2005, along with a runner-up finish in the National League. He was also named best coach at the Durand Cup in 2003.

Medeira has held key technical roles in Indian football, including serving as head of coach education and acting technical director at the AIFF. He has also been a member of the AFC Coach Education Panel and currently serves as a FIFA Technical Expert. Most recently, he was the Technical Director at Sporting Clube de Goa.

Speaking on his appointment, Medeira said Bengaluru FC had built a strong youth structure and credited the existing setup for its progress.

“For me, the philosophy is simple — instead of going and poaching all the time, trying to grow and coach our own local players into the first team is the ultimate goal of youth development at any club,” he said.
