Chennai Super Kings produced a clinical all-round performance to defeat Delhi Capitals by eight wickets in their IPL 2026 clash at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday night. Riding on a disciplined bowling display led by the spinners and a match-winning unbeaten partnership between Sanju Samson and Kartik Sharma, CSK comfortably chased down 156 with 15 balls to spare.

Delhi suffered another setback when KL Rahul attempted an ambitious inside-out shot and handed a simple catch to CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad off Hosein’s bowling. Delhi slipped to 36/2 in the sixth over and never truly recovered from the twin blows.

After being asked to bat first, Delhi Capitals struggled to build momentum for most of their innings before late resistance from Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi pushed them to 155/7 in 20 overs.

Pathum Nissanka and KL Rahul began cautiously for Delhi, though Nissanka looked aggressive early on. He struck Akeal Hosein for two boundaries in the opening over and later attacked Mukesh Chaudhary with a four and a six. However, Dewald Brevis pulled off a sharp catch at mid-on to dismiss him for 19 off 15 balls.

Karun Nair and Nitish Rana attempted to rebuild but Noor Ahmed tightened the screws in the middle overs. Karun fell for 13 after mistiming a sweep, while Nitish departed for 15 as Delhi slumped to 61/4.

Captain Axar Patel’s difficult season with the bat continued when Gurjapneet Singh removed him for just two. At 69/5 in 11 overs, Delhi appeared headed for a below-par total.

Tristan Stubbs and Sameer Rizvi then steadied the innings with a valuable 65-run partnership. Stubbs struck 38 off 31 deliveries with one four and two sixes before falling in the penultimate over. Rizvi remained unbeaten on 40 off 24 balls and finished strongly with a six off the final ball to take Delhi past the 150-run mark.

Ashutosh Sharma also chipped in with a quickfire 14 off five balls before being run out by Gaikwad.

For CSK, Noor Ahmed starred with the ball, picking up key wickets during the middle overs, while Akeal Hosein delivered an economical spell. Gurjapneet Singh also impressed with disciplined pace bowling.

Chasing 156, CSK began carefully before Delhi struck through Lungi Ngidi, who dismissed Gaikwad for six. Urvil Patel briefly accelerated the innings with two sixes before Axar Patel had him stumped for 17.

At 49/2 after seven overs, Delhi sensed an opening. However, Sanju Samson and Kartik Sharma shut the door completely with a dominant unbroken 114-run partnership.

Samson was aggressive against both pace and spin, bringing up his half-century in just 32 balls. He attacked Kuldeep Yadav and later punished T Natarajan with a flurry of boundaries and sixes as CSK raced ahead of the required rate.

Kartik Sharma played the ideal supporting role, rotating strike effectively before opening up late in the innings. He eventually sealed the win with a six and a boundary.

Samson remained unbeaten on 87 off 52 balls, smashing seven fours and six sixes, while Kartik finished on 41 not out from 31 deliveries.

The victory keeps CSK’s playoff hopes alive. Chennai now sit sixth on the points table with five wins and five defeats from 10 matches, with four league games still remaining.
