Diamond Harbour FC secured their first win of the Indian Football League (IFL) 2025-26 season with a 2-1 victory over Dempo SC at Kalyani Stadium on Sunday.
Antonio Moyano gave the home side the lead deep into first-half stoppage time. Dempo responded in the second half through Marcus Joseph, who equalised in the 55th minute. However, Hugo Díaz restored Diamond Harbour’s advantage in the 70th minute to secure the win.
Diamond Harbour head coach Kibu Vicuña made two changes to his starting line-up from their previous outing, bringing in Hugo Díaz and Halicharan Narzary in place of Bryce Brian Miranda and Pintu Mahata.
Dempo SC coach Samir Subash Naik also made three changes to his side. Jose Luis Moreno Pena, Amay Morajkar and Knerkitalang Buam were included in the starting line-up, replacing Vieri Colaco, Richmond Kwasi Owusu and Seigoumang Doungel.
Dempo created a couple of half-chances in the opening minutes, but Diamond Harbour soon settled into the game and controlled possession for much of the first half.
The breakthrough came in first-half stoppage time (45+4’) when Diamond Harbour launched a quick counter-attack. Spanish midfielder Antonio Moyano finished with a deft scoop over the goalkeeper to give the hosts a 1-0 lead at the break.
Dempo equalised in the 55th minute when Marcus Joseph dribbled past two defenders before calmly finishing to make it 1-1.
Diamond Harbour regained the lead in the 70th minute. Substitute Bryce Brian Miranda delivered a cross into the box, which Hugo Díaz Rodriguez converted with a clinical finish.
Dempo nearly found another equaliser in the 76th minute, but Joseph’s effort struck the crossbar. Despite sustained pressure during seven minutes of added time, Diamond Harbour held on to secure a 2-1 victory.
