The India Basketball League has appointed Jake Lush McCrum as chief executive officer, adding a senior sports-business executive as it prepares for its planned early 2027 launch across five Indian cities.
McCrum joins ACG Sports after eight years with Rajasthan Royals, where he served as CEO and led the franchise’s commercial, digital and international development.
He will be based in Mumbai and oversee the strategic and commercial direction of ACG Sports, with responsibility for launching and growing the IBL.
The league has previously confirmed plans to begin with teams in Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad. The five-city model gives the proposed competition an initial national footprint as it attempts to establish a professional basketball property in India.
In a LinkedIn post announcing his move, McCrum said basketball had “huge potential to be the next frontier” in Indian sport, pointing to an estimated 100 million fans and the absence of a professional league.
“The mission: build India’s second-biggest sports property, create an entertainment product that fans are passionate about, and develop a sustainable ecosystem around it,” he wrote.
ACG Sports owner and managing director Karan Singh said McCrum’s experience in global sport and India would support the league’s launch plans.
“Jake’s global experience combined with his deep immersion in India fits perfectly with what we are trying to achieve with the IBL,” Singh said. “His leadership will be instrumental as we build the India Basketball League into a premier global sporting property.”
