Ravindra Bhavan Margao has completed three years under chairman Rajendra Talak and vice-chairman Manohar Borkar, with the institution reporting 94 cultural programmes involving 672 upcoming Goan artists during the period.

Ravindra Bhavan said its work over the three years covered music, theatre, literature, dance, film and visual arts, alongside upgrades to facilities at its Margao campus.

The programme count includes Swaranand, which featured around 80 local musicians and singers across 20 programmes; Natyanand, which held about 24 theatre programmes involving 302 Goan theatre artists; and Kavyanand, which hosted 31 literary programmes for 236 poets and writers.

Nrityanand included around 19 dance programmes involving nearly 54 upcoming dancers.

The institution also cited cultural programmes held around International Women’s Day, Ashadhi Ekadashi, Rangabhoomi Din, Navratri and Christmas celebrations at Ana Fonte Garden. It said the events included performers from Goa and other parts of India.

New competitions and film programming planned

As Ravindra Bhavan enters its fourth year under the present leadership, it said the K. Vaikunth State, National and International Short Film Competition has received nearly 900 entries from Goa, across India and overseas.

Jury evaluation is underway, the statement said, with the awards ceremony scheduled for Aug. 25, 2026. Ravindra Bhavan said it intends to make the competition an annual feature.

Painting and cartoon competitions held in memory of Mario Miranda and Laxman Pai are also expected to become annual activities. The institution said its Film Club screens two films every month and that it is considering a six-to-eight-day festival of National Award-winning films of 2023, along with monthly screenings of classic Indian films.

Auditorium and Black Box Theatre upgrades listed

Ravindra Bhavan said infrastructure work over the three-year period included renovation of the main auditorium with a 7.1 surround sound system, development of a Black Box Theatre, modernisation of the Ravindra Bhavan Club, and upgrades to the canteen and public amenities.

The conference hall was named after late percussionist Laxmanrao Parvatkar, known as Khaprumam. The occasion included Taalyatra, featuring percussionist Pandit Suresh Talwalkar, the statement said.

The institution is also marking the birth centenaries of Mario Miranda, Laxman Pai and cinematographer K. Vaikunth this year. It said programmes were held last year to mark the centenaries of Ravindra Kelekar, Manoharrai Sardesai and Bakibab Borkar.

Ravindra Bhavan said it will continue its focus on creating opportunities for local artists and presenting programmes across literature, music, theatre, dance, cinema and visual arts.
