Manchester United suffered a disappointing 1-2 defeat to Leeds United at Old Trafford in a dramatic Premier League 2025-26 encounter that saw defender Lisandro Martinez receive a straight red card.

Leeds made a dream start, taking the lead inside five minutes through Noah Okafor. The forward reacted quickly after a poor defensive clearance and slotted the ball home, silencing the home crowd early in the contest.

The visitors doubled their advantage in the 29th minute, again through Okafor, who produced a composed volley from the edge of the area following a defensive mix-up in the box. Leeds dominated the first half and could have extended their lead further, with midfielder Ao Tanaka also going close before the break.

Manchester United’s hopes of mounting a comeback suffered a major setback in the 56th minute when Lisandro Martinez was shown a straight red card after a VAR review for pulling the hair of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The dismissal left the hosts with ten men for the remainder of the match.

Despite the numerical disadvantage, United responded with urgency and reduced the deficit in the 69th minute. Casemiro rose highest to head in a cross delivered by Bruno Fernandes, giving the home side a glimmer of hope.

United pushed forward in search of an equaliser, creating several late chances, but Leeds defended resolutely. The visitors cleared multiple efforts off the line and held firm under sustained pressure to secure the win.

The final whistle confirmed a vital victory for Leeds United, strengthening their bid to avoid relegation. Manchester United, meanwhile, were left frustrated after dropping crucial points in the race for European qualification.

Following the defeat, United remain third in the Premier League standings with 55 points, level with fourth-placed Aston Villa. Leeds sit 15th with 36 points.
