Former Aam Aadmi Party Goa President and leader Amit Palekar on Monday resigned from the party, citing ideological differences and concerns over internal decision-making.
In a resignation letter addressed to AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal and party leader Atishi, Palekar said he had joined public life believing in an alternative political culture based on transparency, internal democracy and respect for grassroots voices.
He said it had become difficult to reconcile those ideals with the way decisions were being taken and communicated, alleging that limited dialogue and top-down functioning strained institutions rather than strengthening them.
Palekar said the decision to step away was taken after reflection and not in anger, keeping in mind party workers and the people of the St. Cruz constituency. He said his commitment to Goa and to principled public life remained unchanged.
Announcing his resignation publicly, Palekar said the decision was taken after deep introspection and with a clear conscience. “Positions matter less than principles. Power matters less than purpose. I choose to stand by my convictions and the people of Goa,” he said.
