The District Magistrate of North Goa has prohibited the use, bursting, ignition or operation of fireworks and other pyrotechnic devices inside tourist establishments across the district, citing safety concerns.
The order bans fireworks, sparklers, pyrotechnic effects, flame-thrower type devices, smoke generators and all similar fire or smoke-producing equipment within enclosed premises. The restriction applies to nightclubs, bars, restaurants, hotels, guesthouses, resorts, beach shacks, temporary structures, event venues and other entertainment establishments.
The prohibition extends to organisers of events, banquet halls, private function venues, auditorium operators and all indoor establishments catering to tourists or the general public.
Authorities stated that the measure has been introduced as a preventive step to avoid fire hazards and ensure public safety at indoor venues that often host large gatherings.
However, in exceptional cases, prior written permission may be granted by the District Magistrate or an authorised officer. Applicants seeking approval for indoor pyrotechnics must submit a detailed safety and risk-mitigation plan along with all required compliance documents.
The order comes into effect from February 8, 2026, and will remain in force for a period of 60 days, unless withdrawn earlier.
All Deputy Collectors and Sub-Divisional Magistrates in North Goa have been authorised to verify violations. They may file FIRs at the concerned police stations and initiate complaints before the jurisdictional Judicial Magistrate in cases of non-compliance.
