Dalgado Konknni Akademi Hosts Writing Workshop in Dona Paula

Students in Dona Paula took part in an interactive writing workshop led by Willy Goes. The initiative highlighted creativity while reinforcing the importance of Konkani language.

An educational workshop on essay and story writing was organised by the Dalgado Konknni Akademi for students of Our Lady of the Rosary High School, Dona Paula, with a focus on nurturing creativity and strengthening writing skills among young learners.

The session was conducted by noted writer and guide Willy Goes, who brought his experience in literature and the arts into an engaging classroom environment. Through interactive discussions and practical exercises, students were introduced to the fundamentals of essay and story writing, encouraging them to articulate their thoughts effectively. Goes, a former Principal of Goa College of Art, Altinho, is also known as a speaker, novelist, musician and artist.

The inaugural session was attended by Sr. Lima Rose. Addressing the gathering, Dalgado Konknni Akademi president Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto emphasised the need to preserve linguistic identity, stating, “We have to work zealously to promote and protect our mother tongue Konkani which gives us our identity.”

The workshop was coordinated by school teacher Antoneta D’Souza. Students actively participated in writing activities designed to stimulate imagination and improve storytelling abilities. Certificates of participation were distributed to all attendees.

Organisers said the initiative aimed to promote literary engagement while reinforcing the importance of Konkani language among the younger generation. Students expressed appreciation for the opportunity to learn from an experienced writer, describing the workshop as both enriching and inspiring.
