Shree Damodar High School, Margao, finished runners-up in the Under-14 Boys Inter-School State-Level cricket tournament organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
In the final held at Mapusa-Pedem, Damodar High School were defeated by Progress High School by seven wickets after failing to defend a modest total.
Put in to bat first, Damodar High School managed 77 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. Usman Ghani top-scored with 26 runs, while Affan Shaikh contributed 16 and Rumaan Mulam added 15. The innings, however, struggled to gain momentum against disciplined bowling.
For Progress High School, Sparsh and Param led the bowling attack, picking up three wickets each to restrict the Margao side.
In reply, Progress High School chased down the target of 78 comfortably, with Swayam anchoring the innings with an unbeaten 30 to guide his team to victory. Ansh was the standout bowler for Damodar High School, claiming two wickets, but it was not enough to halt the opposition’s steady chase.
