The Indian National Congress has appointed Girish Chodankar as president of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC), replacing Amit Patkar as the party seeks to strengthen its organisation in Goa ahead of future electoral battles.
The appointments were approved by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and take immediate effect.
Chodankar, who has previously held several organisational responsibilities within the party, will now head the Goa unit of the Congress.
The party has also appointed three working presidents for the GPCC. MK Shaikh, Altone D’Costa and Carlos Alvares Ferreira have been named to the posts.
Datta D Naik has been appointed treasurer of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.
The Congress announced the appointments in a statement and said: “Congratulations @girishgoaINC for being appointed as @INCGoa President.”
The party also recorded its appreciation for outgoing GPCC president Amit Patkar and acknowledged his contribution to the organisation during his tenure.
Several key organisational committees have also been reconstituted. Yuri Alemao has been appointed chairperson of the Campaign Committee, while Captain Viriato Fernandes will head the Manifesto Committee.
Former Union minister Francisco Sardinha has been appointed chairperson of the Coordination Committee, with Sunil Kawthankar serving as co-chairperson.
The Congress said all appointments will come into effect immediately.
