Goa is gearing up for the much-awaited return of Goa 7s 2025 – Season 2, set to take place on November 15 and 16 at the GMC Athletic Stadium, Bambolim. In just its second edition, the international rugby tournament is already punching above its weight, with 24 teams and more than 350 players ready to hit the field for two days of fast-paced, high-energy action.

Organised by the Crocotyles Rugby Foundation (CRF), the showcase features Men’s 7s, Women’s 7s, and Adult Mixed Touch Rugby, expanding its reach and ambitions since last year’s 12-team launch. “We have opened the floodgates to the international players and teams now. It is just going to keep growing,” said Brandan Crasto, Founder of Goa 7s and President of CRF. Building on inspiration from global events like the HSBC 7s and Hong Kong 7s, Crasto added, “This is a big shout out to World Rugby, Asia Rugby, and India Rugby as well. Please come down and be part of us and see what we are doing here.”

The tournament will welcome teams from across India, including Jammu & Kashmir and Tamil Nadu, alongside international squads from Australia, Nepal, South Africa, the USA, the Philippines, and Sri Lanka. Rugby India’s Head Manager, Ryan Gaulstan, sees the tournament as a springboard for the sport’s development in the region. “With Brandan’s vision and support, Goa 7s will grow bigger and will definitely help develop some really good players,” he said, predicting that Goa could soon become one of the top rugby states in India.

Tournament Director, Kartik Menda, acknowledged the double challenge brought on by doubling participation. “Work began a few months ago. It is a community-driven initiative. The departments of Tourism and Art and Culture have come on board and have really helped us,” he said.

Spectators can expect thrilling matches streamed live to a global audience, with viewership projected to cross 5,000. Prizes include the traditional Cup, Plate, and Bowl trophies, reflecting rugby’s sevens-era hustle — with defending champions Delhi Hurricanes RC returning to defend their titles in all categories.

Beyond the game, Goa 7s represents a bigger vision for the state. Supported by the Government of Goa’s Department of Tourism, the tournament aligns with efforts to rebrand Goa as more than just a seaside retreat — but a dynamic sports and adventure tourism destination. CRF’s efforts under Crasto have already impacted thousands of students annually through grassroots programmes, driven by the belief that “rugby can be a catalyst for community, identity, and economic growth.”

As Crasto puts it, “With the support of Asia Rugby, India Rugby, and the World Rugby Series, I think we can make this one fantastic tournament.”
