Goa fell 18 runs short against Andhra in their U-23 Women’s T20 Elite Group D clash at the VCA Stadium, Nagpur, on Thursday, despite a determined innings from Tanisha Gaikwad.
Opting to bowl first after winning the toss, Goa made early inroads as Angel D’Costa ripped through Andhra’s top order. Her three quick strikes, along with a run-out, left Andhra struggling at 14 for 4. The momentum shifted when Hema Roshni (55 not out) and Anjum (53) stitched together a crucial 93-run stand for the fifth wicket, lifting Andhra to 146 for 7 in their 20 overs. Angel returned exceptional figures of 4 for 10, while Usma Khan and Sejal Naik claimed a wicket each.
In response, Goa’s chase moved at a controlled but slow pace, reaching 51 for 3 in the 10th over. Tanisha Gaikwad then powered a counterattack, scoring 73 off 50 deliveries, including eight fours and three sixes. With minimal support from the other batters, her lone effort was not enough as Goa closed on 128 for 6, falling short of the target.
The result leaves Goa with one win and two losses from three outings, placing them fifth in the Group D table. Their next match is on November 29 against Jammu & Kashmir, a side yet to register a win, offering Goa a strong chance to regain momentum.
