Public meeting in Margao on April 19 to promote Konkani language. Citizens urged to support efforts to strengthen its use across Goa.

A public meeting aimed at promoting and preserving the Konkani language will be held at Lohia Maidan in Margao on April 19, 2026.

The event seeks to bring together Konkani lovers, writers, cultural activists and members of the public to deliberate on ways to strengthen the use of the language in daily life, education and administration. Organisers said the initiative is intended to reinforce the role of Konkani as the mother tongue of Goa and encourage its wider adoption across sectors.

Prominent speakers and cultural figures are expected to address the gathering, sharing perspectives on language preservation and cultural identity. The meeting will also serve as a platform to discuss practical strategies to ensure Konkani remains actively used in governance, education systems and everyday communication.

Organisers have appealed to citizens to attend in large numbers and show solidarity for the cause. “The objective is to foster pride and ensure the active use of Konkani across all sectors of Goan society,” they stated.

The meeting is scheduled from 4 pm to 6 pm at Lohia Maidan, Margao.
