The Global Konknni Forum has announced the launch of a Konkani language course in Roman script for seminarians of St Pius X College Archdiocesan Seminary under the Archdiocese of Bombay. The course will begin on March 30, 2026.
The programme aims to strengthen the use of Konkani in Roman script within church and community settings. It is designed using structured linguistic methods, with a focus on spoken fluency, reading skills, and grammatical accuracy to ensure practical language use.
The course will be conducted by Jose Salvador Fernandes, editor of the Roman script Konkani weekly ‘FUDDARI.’ Fernandes, a postgraduate in Konkani, has previously taught at Carmel College for Women, Nuvem, and Fr Agnel College of Arts and Commerce, Pilar. He has also served for over a decade as Secretary of the Dalgado Konkani Akademi and currently holds the same position at the Global Konknni Forum.
The intensive programme will run full-day sessions over three weeks at the Pilar Pilgrimage Centre.
The initiative is aimed at equipping future clergy with functional Konkani skills for pastoral work while promoting the continued use of the language in Roman script.
