Goa suffered an 87-run defeat against Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Elite Cricket Tournament on Wednesday, despite a spirited batting effort while chasing a massive target. The match was played at the Jaipuria Vidyalaya Ground in Jaipur.

After winning the toss, Goa elected to field first and made early inroads, preventing Mumbai’s top order from settling. However, Mumbai recovered strongly through Sarfaraz Khan, who produced a blistering innings of 157 runs off just 75 deliveries, smashing nine fours and 14 sixes. Wicketkeeper Hardik Tamore added crucial momentum late in the innings with a rapid 53 off 28 balls.

Mumbai posted an imposing total of 444 for 8 in their allotted 50 overs. For Goa, Darshan Misal emerged as the most successful bowler with three wickets, while V. Koushik and Lalit Yadav picked up two wickets apiece.

In reply, Goa began their chase with Arjun Tendulkar and Kashyap Bakhle at the top. The innings gathered pace in the middle overs, with Lalit Yadav scoring 64 runs and adding a vital 117-run partnership for the fifth wicket with Abhinav Tejrana.

Abhinav Tejrana was the standout performer for Goa, scoring a superb century off just 70 balls, which included five fours and eight sixes. Captain Deepraj Gaonkar further lifted hopes with a quickfire 70 off 28 deliveries, striking four fours and seven sixes.

Following this loss, Goa slipped to third place in Group C with 12 points. The team will look to regain momentum when they face Uttarakhand in their next fixture on January 3.
