The Indian Army has announced a series of senior leadership appointments that will take effect from April 1 in New Delhi.

Lt Gen Dheeraj Seth, currently serving as the Southern Army Commander, will assume charge as the next Vice Chief of Army Staff (VCOAS). He will replace Lt Gen PP Singh, who is set to take over as the Western Army Commander on the same day.

In the Eastern Army Command, Lt Gen VMB Krishnan has been appointed as the next General Officer Commanding-in-Chief. Lt Gen Sandeep Jain will take over as the new Southern Army Commander.

Earlier this year, on February 6, Lt Gen PP Singh awarded Unit Citations to six Indian Army units for exemplary service on the occasion of Army Day.

The ceremony was held on February 5, 2026. Lt Gen Pushpendra Singh presented the Unit Citation to the Commanding Officer of the Intelligence and Field Security Unit (IFSU), Colonel Jitendra Singh, and Subedar Major Mandeep Singh.

The citation recognised the unit’s performance, devotion to duty, operational efficiency and acts of bravery in the Eastern Ladakh sector along the India-China border.

An army official said the IFSU has been operating for the past two years in some of the most challenging and sensitive areas along the Line of Actual Control (LAC). The unit has been involved in field intelligence gathering and maintaining vigilance in high-altitude terrain.

The citation also acknowledged the discipline and operational performance of the unit under extreme weather conditions and sustained operational pressure.

Unit Citations are among the highest collective honours awarded by the Indian Army and recognise formations and units that demonstrate exceptional dedication and operational excellence.
