An Indian Army contingent has departed to participate in the second edition of the India–Cambodia bilateral military exercise, CINBAX-II 2026, scheduled to take place from May 4 to May 17 in Kampong Speu Province, Cambodia.
The exercise will be conducted at the Techo Sen Phnom Thom Mreas Prov Royal Cambodian Air Force Training Centre (Camp Basil) and is part of India’s ongoing defence cooperation with friendly nations. The engagement comes at a time of evolving global security challenges and is being held under the framework of Chapter VII of the United Nations mandate.
The Indian contingent comprises 120 personnel, largely drawn from a battalion of the Maratha Light Infantry Regiment. The Cambodian side will field 160 personnel from the Royal Cambodian Army. The joint training will focus on company-level operations in sub-conventional environments, reflecting real-world scenarios faced during UN peacekeeping missions.
According to officials, the exercise is aligned with current counter-terrorism dynamics encountered by peacekeeping forces. It will include a mix of practical discussions and tactical drills culminating in a validation exercise. Specialised training modules will cover drone operations, mortar deployment, and sniper tactics.
The primary objective of CINBAX-II is to enhance interoperability, coordination, and operational synergy between the armed forces of India and Cambodia. The exercise is also expected to facilitate the exchange of best practices and operational experiences gained in semi-urban combat environments.
Officials stated that the joint exercise underscores the commitment of both nations to maintaining global peace and security while strengthening bilateral defence ties. The initiative is also aimed at improving mutual understanding in addressing regional and international security challenges.
