The Benaulim Block Congress Committee has expressed concern over the proposed amendments to the Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act (FCRA), stating that the changes could grant extensive powers to a designated authority over organisations registered under the Act.

In a statement, the Committee said the proposed Bill may allow authorities to seize, manage or dispose of assets and funds of organisations whose FCRA licences have been cancelled, surrendered or have expired. These could include institutions such as churches and educational bodies.

The Committee noted that such provisions may have an adverse impact on minority institutions and could affect their functioning.

It has urged the Chief Minister to take up the matter with the Central Government and seek reconsideration of the proposed amendments, stating that the Bill should be dropped in the larger interest of minorities in the country.

  1. It’s a serious matter and I feel the opposition MLAs have to voice it out the way Benaulim Congress Block has done. Really surprised with the attitude of the ruling MLAs,looks like they are waiting for this happen.
