Goa fell to a six-wicket defeat against Uttar Pradesh in their Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy Elite T20 encounter on Wednesday, despite a commanding innings from Abhinav Tejarana. The match was played at the JU Second Campus, Salt Lake Ground in Kolkata.

Batting first, Goa posted a competitive 172 for 9 in their 20 overs. Tejarana set the tone with an explosive 72 off 35 balls, striking four fours and six sixes before being dismissed by leg-spinner Vipraj Nigam. Goa experimented with Arjun Tendulkar as an opener, and he contributed a steady 28 off 22 balls, while Vikas Singh added an unbeaten 21 off 14 to push the total past 170.

Uttar Pradesh’s experienced pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar made early dents with figures of 2 for 23, and Shivam Mavi strengthened the bowling effort with 3 for 24.

Chasing 173, UP lost skipper Karan Sharma for a duck, giving Goa an encouraging start. But wicketkeeper-batter Aryan Juyal anchored the innings with a superb, unbeaten 93 off 57 balls, hitting 11 fours and three sixes. He received solid support from Priyam Garg (28) and Sameer Rizvi (38) as UP reached 173 for 4 in 18.2 overs.

For Goa, V. Koushik returned 2 for 30, while Deepraj Gaonkar impressed with 2 for 19.

Goa will aim for a stronger outing in their next match against Chandigarh on Friday at Eden Gardens.
