Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a six-wicket victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their opening match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.

Chasing a modest target of 142, DC overcame an early collapse to reach the total with 17 balls remaining, thanks to a match-winning partnership between Sameer Rizvi and Tristan Stubbs.

DC’s innings got off to a poor start as Mohammed Shami struck on the first ball to dismiss KL Rahul for a duck. Mohsin Khan then removed Nitish Rana for 15, while Prince Yadav picked up two wickets in an over, including captain Axar Patel, leaving DC struggling at 30/4 in five overs.

Rizvi and Stubbs then steadied the innings, initially rebuilding cautiously before accelerating in the middle overs. Rizvi led the charge with an unbeaten 70 off 47 balls, while Stubbs supported with 39 not out off 32 deliveries. The pair stitched together a 119-run partnership to seal the game.

Earlier, LSG were bowled out for 141 in 18.4 overs after being asked to bat first. Captain Rishabh Pant opened alongside Mitchell Marsh, but his run-out triggered a collapse. Marsh top-scored with 35, while Abdul Samad contributed 36. Shahbaz Ahmed remained unbeaten on 15.

For DC, Lungi Ngidi and T Natarajan picked up three wickets each, while Kuldeep Yadav claimed two wickets. Axar Patel also chipped in with one.

Despite a disciplined bowling effort from Mohsin Khan and Prince Yadav, LSG could not defend the target as DC continued their strong record against the side in the IPL.

Sameer Rizvi was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten knock that guided DC to victory.
