Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 18 runs in a high-scoring Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. RCB posted 240/4 on the back of half-centuries from Phil Salt, Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar before restricting MI to 222/5 despite a late charge from Sherfane Rutherford.
A 120-run opening stand between Salt and Kohli laid the foundation for RCB’s innings. Salt scored 78 off 36 balls, hitting six fours and six sixes, while Kohli made 50 off 38 balls with five boundaries and a six. The momentum continued with a 65-run partnership between Kohli and skipper Patidar, who struck 53 off just 20 balls, including four fours and five sixes. Tim David added an unbeaten 34 off 16 balls, with two fours and three sixes, to push RCB to a commanding total.
Put in to bat first, RCB’s openers began aggressively. Kohli struck Trent Boult for a six in the opening over, while Salt added a boundary. The pair continued to dominate the pace attack of Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. In the fifth over, Salt took apart Mitchell Santner, smashing three sixes and a four to collect 22 runs and bring up RCB’s 50 in 4.2 overs.
At the end of the powerplay, RCB were 71/0, with Salt on 47 and Kohli on 22. Salt reached his half-century in 25 balls during the eighth over, which yielded 20 runs against Mayank Markande. Kohli followed with boundaries in the next over as RCB crossed 100 in 8.4 overs. At the halfway stage, RCB were 115/0.
Shardul Thakur broke the opening stand in the 11th over, dismissing Salt with Hardik Pandya taking the catch at extra cover. RCB were 120/1. Patidar then launched an aggressive innings, hitting three consecutive sixes off Markande in the 12th over.
RCB crossed 150 in 12.1 overs as runs continued to flow. Patidar and Kohli added quick runs, including a 23-run over off Shardul. Kohli brought up his fifty in 37 balls but was later dismissed by Hardik Pandya, leaving RCB at 185/2 in 14.4 overs.
Patidar continued his attacking approach, reaching his fifty in 17 balls before being dismissed by Santner for 53. RCB were 194/3 in 16 overs. A single from Jitesh Sharma took RCB past 200 in 16.5 overs.
In the final overs, David provided the finishing touches as RCB ended on 240/4. Shardul Thakur, Hardik Pandya, Mitchell Santner and Trent Boult took one wicket each for MI.

RCB struck in the eighth over when Suyash Sharma dismissed Rickelton for 37 off 22 balls and Tilak Varma for one in the same over. MI were 99/2 at the halfway mark.
Suryakumar Yadav scored 33 off 22 balls but was dismissed by Krunal Pandya in the 13th over, leaving MI at 138/3. Hardik Pandya attempted to revive the chase with a quick 40 off 22 balls, including six fours and a six, but was dismissed by Jacob Duffy.

Suyash Sharma was the pick of the RCB bowlers with two wickets.
