Sporting Club Delhi produced a spirited comeback to hold Mumbai City FC to a 2-2 draw in the Indian Super League 2025-26 at the Mumbai Football Arena on Sunday.
Mumbai City FC took an early lead when Jorge Pereyra Díaz capitalised on a defensive lapse to head home in the third minute after Akash Mishra’s long throw was not cleared by the Delhi defence.
Delhi attempted to respond quickly, with Mohammed Amin testing the defence from distance, but Mumbai doubled their advantage in the 17th minute. Brandon Fernandes delivered a precise pass to Noufal PN on the left flank, and the winger finished clinically into the top corner to give the hosts a 2-0 lead.
Both teams continued to search for goals, though clear chances were limited. Matija Babovic tried his luck from inside the box in the 34th minute, but his effort sailed over the crossbar.
Delhi pulled a goal back in first-half stoppage time after a mistake by Mumbai goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa while attempting to clear a free-kick. Rafael Ribeiro set up Manoj Mohammad at the edge of the box, and the left-back struck a powerful shot into the bottom-left corner to make it 2-1 before the interval.

The visitors began the second half with greater intent, keeping possession and restricting Mumbai’s attacking opportunities. Alex Saji headed wide from a cross in the 66th minute, while substitute Devendra Murgaokar also missed the target with a header five minutes later.
Mumbai nearly restored their two-goal advantage in the 73rd minute when Mishra’s header from a Fernandes cross was comfortably saved by SC Delhi goalkeeper Nora Fernandes.
Delhi found the equaliser moments later when Babovic produced a determined run through the Mumbai defence before finishing from close range to level the match at 2-2.
Both sides pushed for a winner in the closing stages. Franklin Nazareth fired wide from distance for Mumbai in the 78th minute, while Zothanpuia saw his long-range effort blocked later in the game.
Delhi almost secured victory in stoppage time when Devendra Murgaokar met a cross from Ramhlunchhunga, but his header drifted wide of the target.
The match ended 2-2, with Sporting Club Delhi earning their first point of the season after recovering from a two-goal deficit against Mumbai City FC.
