The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday announced Geetesh Naik as its candidate for the upcoming Ponda by-election, with party leaders outlining key local issues and their approach to governance.

Addressing a press conference, AAP Goa State President Valmiki Naik, Senior Vice President Sandesh Teleikar-Dessai, Mahila leader Mamata Maben, and former Panch Gautam Naik said the party would focus on issues affecting residents in the constituency.

Valmiki Naik described Geetesh Naik as a young leader with experience in social work and community initiatives. He pointed to Naik’s involvement in youth-focused programmes, including skill development and digital literacy efforts, along with his engagement in community organisations in Ponda.

He also said the party has been working in the constituency through initiatives such as polyclinics and assistance centres aimed at helping citizens with administrative processes, while raising local concerns.

Geetesh Naik said he comes from a Bhandari Samaj background and has been working on local issues for over 15 years. He highlighted gaps in healthcare facilities in Ponda, including the absence of a blood bank and limitations at the ID Hospital, which he said often forces patients to travel to Goa Medical College for treatment.

He also raised concerns over traffic management, parking, and administrative inefficiencies in the constituency.

Commenting on recent political developments, Naik referred to concerns about dynastic politics and said there is a need for leadership emerging from grassroots-level work.

Sandesh Teleikar-Dessai said the party has consistently raised issues related to traffic congestion, sanitation, and healthcare in Ponda. He added that these areas would be prioritised if the party is elected.

The party said it aims to address infrastructure and civic issues in the constituency, including traffic regulation, waste management, and healthcare services.
