More than 800 people participated in a 10-kilometre anti-narcotics run organised by the Goa Police’s Anti Narcotic Police Station on the 26th of June 2026, to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
The awareness run aimed to highlight the harmful effects of drug abuse and encourage collective efforts towards building a drug-free society.
Participants included members of the public, students from educational institutions, personnel from the Army and Coast Guard, and representatives of organisations from across Goa.
The event was attended by Chief Secretary Dr. V. Candavelou, Director General of Police Alok Kumar, Deputy Inspector General of Police Ved Prakash Surya, Narcotics Control Bureau Goa Zonal Director Ankush Salame, and other senior officials.
The Chief Secretary formally flagged off the run and encouraged participants while appreciating the efforts of the Goa Police to spread awareness against drug abuse.
© Goa Police PRAs part of the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, the Anti Narcotic Police Station also conducted awareness programmes in educational institutions across the state. The sessions focused on informing students about the harmful effects of drug abuse, the importance of making healthy lifestyle choices and the collective responsibility of society in preventing substance abuse.
According to the Goa Police, the programmes received a positive response from participants and reinforced the message of staying away from drugs while promoting a healthier, drug-free society.
The activities were organised under the leadership of Police Inspector Sagun Sawant of the Anti Narcotic Police Station, under the direct supervision of Superintendent of Police Nerlon Albuquerque and the overall supervision of Superintendent of Police Sunita Sawant of the Anti Narcotic Cell.
