South Goa Police have issued a public alert urging senior citizens to stay vigilant following two cases of gold theft reported in South Goa, where the con-men posed as policemen.

Superintendent of Police (South), Tikam Singh Verma, said the incidents occurred in Vasco and Fatorda, where elderly individuals, both above the age of 70, were targeted.

Speaking to reporters in Margao, Verma detailed the modus operandi: “These accused, on a bike, stop senior citizens posing as policemen and ask them to take off their gold and help them by wrapping it in a cloth,” he said.

In both cases, the victims returned home only to discover that their gold ornaments were missing from the cloth.

Verma stated that the gang appears to be using a black two-wheeler and added that no arrests have been made so far.

He appealed to the elderly public to remain cautious and informed them that real police officers would never randomly stop citizens on the road unless there is a legitimate reason.
