The Marathi Rajbhasha Nirdhar Samiti (South Goa) has announced a rally and convention at Lohia Maidan in Margao on April 12 from 4 pm, seeking official language status for Marathi in Goa.

Addressing a press conference in Margao on Friday, members of the Samiti reiterated their demand for recognition of Marathi as a state language. They said the rally aims to mobilise public support and increase awareness around the issue.

“The need of the hour is justice to Marathi as a state language,” representatives said, while calling for wider participation from the public.

The Samiti also stated that it plans to raise the issue during the upcoming Assembly session. Members said they would urge the government to move a resolution granting official language status to Marathi.

According to organisers, the convention will bring together representatives from various organisations. Discussions are expected to focus on the objectives of the movement, the Samiti’s position on the demand, and its future course.

Senior leaders of the association are scheduled to address the gathering and outline the next steps in the campaign.
