The South Goa Advocates Association (SGAA) has elected its managing committee for the term 2026–2028 following elections held on April 28, 2026.
Adv. Antonio Clovis Da’Costa has been elected as President, while Adv. Tushar V. Karmalkar will serve as Vice President. Adv. Chuvo Barbosa has been elected Secretary and Adv. Cronny Joe D’Silva as Treasurer.
The association has also elected regional representatives, including Adv. Cheryl Anne Joanes (Margao), Adv. Prashant Borkar (Quepem), Adv. Kashinath Sawant Dessai (Sanguem), Adv. Pranay Chandrakant Kavrekar (Vasco), and Adv. Abhilasha Manguesh Dessai (Canacona). Adv. Pawankumari Y. Palekar has been elected as Lady Representative.
The SGAA, which has a membership of around 800 lawyers, has been actively involved in addressing issues concerning members of the legal fraternity, litigants, and the public. In recent years, the association has filed public interest litigations and writ petitions before the High Court of Bombay at Goa on key matters, including the oxygen crisis during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has also secured favourable orders related to the computerisation and digitalisation of Revenue Courts.
During its first committee meeting held on April 29, 2026, the newly elected body resolved to take steps to streamline issues affecting lawyers, litigants, and the general public, particularly in Civil Courts and before Revenue Authorities in South Goa.
