Assam Pradesh BJP spokesperson Kamal Kumar Medhi on Thursday, accused Congress leaders Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain of harbouring pro-Pakistan sympathies and prioritising the interests of migrant Muslims over those of indigenous Assamese people.
Addressing a press conference at the Assam Pradesh BJP headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, Medhi alleged that both leaders were working to revive what he described as the ideological legacy of the Muslim League.
“Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain are pro-Pakistan leaders. Just as Gaurav Gogoi has connections with Pakistan, Rakibul Hussain too carries Pakistan-sympathy in his blood. This is because Rakibul Hussain’s father, Nurul Hussain, was a volunteer of the Muslim League. He used to hoist the Pakistani flag at his own residence and went from house to house of migrant Muslims campaigning in support of Jinnah. Rakibul Hussain is the son of that very pro-Pakistan leader. Today, Gaurav Gogoi and Rakibul Hussain together are striving relentlessly to fulfil the old dream of the Muslim League,” Medhi said.
The BJP spokesperson further alleged that the Congress party was being transformed into what he termed a “party of the Muslims” and was conspiring against Assam’s indigenous communities.
“By aligning with migrant Miya Muslims, they are attempting to suppress the indigenous communities of Assam. These two Congress leaders are leading a long-term conspiracy of aggressive Miya Muslims who are unleashing various forms of so-called jihadist attacks upon indigenous and Indian-origin people,” he claimed.
Medhi said the alleged objective of the Congress leaders extended beyond electoral success and involved pursuing what he described as a hidden agenda in Miya-dominated areas under the cover of electoral politics. He claimed that the Congress had been completely transformed into a party representing the Miyas and was hatching fresh conspiracies against indigenous and Indian-origin citizens.
Appealing to what he described as patriotic and indigenous people, Medhi urged them to leave the Congress party, citing its alleged shift towards a particular community. He also referred to 720 Congress candidacy applications, claiming that over 600 were from what he described as an unfamiliar community.
Medhi concluded by stating that in the next Assam Assembly, there would be no Congress MLA from indigenous or Indian-origin communities.
