Over 140 participants from 57 parishes and four chapels attended a seminar on the Basics of Inter-religious Dialogue at the Pilar Pilgrim Centre on August 31, 2025.

Rt. Rev. Simião Purificação Fernandes, Auxiliary Bishop of Goa and Daman, emphasized the value of dialogue in building understanding among different faiths. He likened it to a dining table, saying it allows people to gather, share, and engage despite differences.

The seminar was organized by the Apostolate of Inter-Religious Dialogue of the Archdiocese of Goa and Daman and Sadbhav. The morning session included talks on the Catholic perspective, biblical foundations, Church teachings, and an overview of Hinduism, Islam, and Sikhism by clergy and professors from local theological institutes.

In the afternoon, participants engaged in group discussions facilitated by Fr. Ramiro Luis, focusing on practical aspects of inter-religious interaction and exploring related themes through videos and exercises. A Q&A session followed, addressing participants’ questions about interfaith practice.

Attendees noted the seminar’s relevance amid rising incidents of intolerance. Sylvia Vaz from Mae de Deus Church, Saligao, said it helped deepen understanding of her own faith and respect for others. Ivy Rodrigues from Our Lady of Rosary Church, Caranzalem, added that inter-religious dialogue is about openness and building bridges rather than debate or conversion.

The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks from Fr. Elvis Fernandes. Ms. Alisha Da Cunha compered the event.
