Bhim Shakti Sangathan (Goa) on Wednesday demanded the immediate registration of an FIR against unidentified persons accused of issuing threats and abusive messages to social media content creator Deepak Kumar, while also seeking police protection for him.
Addressing a joint press conference in Margao, South Goa President Savio Coutinho, Advocate Prasenjit Dhage, Deepak Kumar, Lincoln Gomes, Damodar Onskar, Camilo Camara, Anwar Naroo, Lalan Parsekar, Aneil Alvares, Iftiyaz Shaik and Aziz Shah alleged that Kumar had been subjected to criminal intimidation, life threats, obscene abuse and sustained online harassment.
According to the organisation, Kumar submitted a complaint to the Crime Branch Police Station at Ribandar on May 2, 2026, seeking registration of an FIR against unknown individuals. The complaint reportedly cites offences including criminal intimidation, intentional insult, defamation, obscene acts and language, insult to the modesty of women and criminal conspiracy under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Coutinho alleged that the harassment escalated after Kumar uploaded a video on his Instagram account, “deepakdialoguess”, containing political commentary and raising questions regarding the Curchorem sex scandal as well as issues related to the functioning and policies of the Goa government.
He claimed that following the video, Kumar and members of his family, including his mother and sister, were subjected to abusive messages and threats through social media platforms and messaging applications.
Coutinho also questioned the decision to restrict access to Kumar’s Instagram account.
“Such targeted attacks are an assault on freedom of speech and expression guaranteed under Article 19(1)(a) of the Constitution,” Coutinho said.
“While the police were very quick in blocking the Instagram account, we demand for immediate registration of FIR, swift tracing of the culprits through digital footprints, mobile numbers and IP addresses, and adequate security protection for Deepak Kumar, who is already suffering from severe health issues and is scheduled for surgery in June 2026.”
He further alleged that instead of acting against those issuing threats, police had registered a case against Kumar under Section 353(2) of the BNS and suspended his social media account, which he claimed had more than 1.6 lakh followers.
Advocate Prasenjit Dhage urged Goa Police to register an FIR against those allegedly threatening Kumar through social media platforms and phone calls.
“Political commentary cannot be suppressed through threats and intimidation,” Dhage said, while calling for action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam.
Kumar thanked Bhim Shakti Sangathan for its support and appealed to Goa Police to investigate the matter and provide protection.
He said he was living under constant fear due to the threats received.
“Though the letter from the DIG to Meta requesting for blocking access, stated that I had been actively posting defamatory content against the Hon’ble Chief Minister, the fact is that the Curchorem sex racket was his first and only video about a Goan issue, and I didn’t even know that Dr Pramod Sawant was the Chief Minister of Goa,” Kumar said.
The organisation placed five demands before the authorities:
- Immediate registration of an FIR based on Kumar’s complaint.
- A time-bound investigation and arrest of those responsible.
- Preservation and forensic examination of electronic evidence.
- Security protection for the complainant.
- Action against individuals allegedly using social media platforms to spread threats and hate messages.
Bhim Shakti Sangathan said it would continue to support Kumar and his efforts to seek legal action in the matter.
