The Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) has formed a dedicated Women’s Wing aimed at strengthening the promotion of Romi Konkani across Goa.
The decision was taken during a meeting held on the occasion of World Women’s Day, chaired by DKA President Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto and Secretary Agnelo Borim. The meeting was attended by teachers, members of the Akademi, and language promoters.
According to the Akademi, the Women’s Wing will function under its leadership and will focus on expanding the use of Romi Konkani in schools, villages, and local communities.
Several initiatives were outlined during the meeting. These include organising reading and recitation competitions in schools and parishes, along with workshops on Romi Konkani reading, orthography, and compering skills.
The Akademi also plans to strengthen youth engagement through summer camps and by encouraging children’s literature. Workshops on writing for children are expected to be conducted, along with the preparation of a guidebook for learners.
A key proposal discussed was the introduction of Romi Konkani orthography classes in both North and South Goa. These classes are intended to support learners of different age groups.
The Women’s Wing is expected to begin its activities with awareness drives and community-based programmes aimed at increasing participation in the Romi Konkani movement.
