DKA Releases Fr Ave Maria Afonso’s New Konkani Book

Dalgado Konknni Akademi (DKA) organised the release of Matiechea Aidonant Bhanddar, a book authored by Rev. Fr. Ave Maria Afonso, at St. Thomas Church, Cansaulim. The event was attended by Konkani writers, literary enthusiasts, parishioners and members of the local community.

The function was held in the presence of Chief Guest John D’sa, writer and PPC Moderator, along with author Rev. Fr. Ave Maria Afonso, Adv. Peter John Afonso, Rev. Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto, President of Dalgado Konknni Akademi, and Agnelo Borim, Secretary of DKA.

Addressing the gathering, John D’sa praised the literary contributions of Fr. Ave Maria Afonso and acknowledged the role played by Dalgado Konknni Akademi in promoting Roman Konkani and preserving Goa’s linguistic and cultural heritage.

He highlighted Fr. Ave Maria Afonso’s continued efforts to enrich Roman Konkani literature and his work in guiding parishioners towards deeper faith and Christian values.

Speaking on the occasion, Rev. Fr. Myron Jeson Barreto described the publication as a valuable treasury of knowledge and wisdom. He said the articles contained in the book draw from Fr. Ave Maria Afonso’s experiences in priestly ministry and reflect cultural, literary, religious and moral values that continue to hold relevance in contemporary society.

Fr. Ave Maria Afonso, who serves as Parish Priest of St. Thomas Church, Cansaulim, is known for his pastoral ministry, involvement in community development initiatives and support for literary and cultural activities in Goa. Through his service in various parishes, he has worked to strengthen faith formation, encourage community participation and promote Christian values. He is also associated with Konkani cultural activities and initiatives aimed at encouraging vocations among young people.

The programme was compered by Agnelo Borim, Secretary of Dalgado Konknni Akademi.

Several Konkani writers, literary enthusiasts and parishioners of St. Thomas Church participated in the event.
