Veteran Konkani activist Serafino Cota was unanimously elected President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa, during the organisation’s Annual General Body Meeting held at Konkani Bhavan, Vidyanagar, Margao, on Sunday, June 28.
Election Officer Anil Pai announced the results of the election at the meeting.
The newly elected executive committee includes outgoing president Ratnamala Divkar as Vice-President, Mangaldas Bhat as General Secretary and Dr. Purushottam Verlekar as Treasurer.
Speaking after his election, Cota outlined his priorities for the organisation.
“My main priority would be to increase the reach of mandal’s activities to a larger population across all sections in Goa.”
During the meeting, Dr. Purushottam Verlekar presented the audited accounts for the financial year 2025-26. Ratnamala Divkar presented a report on the activities undertaken by the Mandal over the past year, while Mangaldas Bhat outlined the programme of activities planned for the current financial year.
The new committee also includes Prachi Prabhavalkar and Pramod Surlekar as Joint Secretaries.
The Central Committee members are Jose Lourenco, Vallabh Barve, Shalaka Desai, Uday Gude, Swetang Naik, Francis Fernandes, Prasad Pagi and Gaurang Bhandiye.
The Taluka Representatives elected are Abhijit Pagi (Canacona), Akash Gaonkar (Quepem), Jagannath (Mithun) Gurav (Sanguem), Suvidha Naik (Ponda), Velanki Pednekar (Pernem), Sanath Bharne (Tiswadi), Palash Agni (Salcete), Pravin Sawant (Bicholim), Sarika Naik (Sattari), Prasad Pangam (Dharbandora), Prachi Prabhavalkar (Bardez) and Pramod Surlekar (Mormugao).
Paresh Chari was also co-opted as a member of the committee.
