A joint initiative by the Dalgado Konknni Akademi and the Kuddchoddem-Sanvordem Konknni Kendr (KSKK) saw a celebration of Konkani literature and language through a book launch and a Romi Konkani reading competition held at Guardian Angel Church, Sanvordem.
The programme began with a welcome address by DKA president Fr Myron Jeson Barreto, who greeted attendees and underscored the importance of promoting Konkani language and literature.
Chief guest Fr Jose Caetano D’Costa commended the organisers for their efforts in encouraging reading habits and preserving Konkani. Fr Ashliff Correia delivered a talk on effective reading, urging participants, especially youth, to develop strong reading practices.
The event featured a Romi Konkani reading competition conducted in two categories: Senior and Children’s groups. Participants demonstrated clarity and expression, reflecting growing interest in the language.
The programme also saw the release of the book Amurpiki Jinn, a collection of short stories authored by Anthony Menezes, adding to the body of Romi Konkani literature.
In the Senior category, Liza D’Silva secured first place, followed by Ambrose D’Souza and Myron Colaco in second and third positions, respectively. Duella Fernandes received a consolation prize. In the Children’s category, Adora Godinho won first place, while Rishona Vales and Valushka Fernandes placed second and third. Diena Pais received a consolation prize.
The programme was compered by Agnelo Borim. The event concluded with the National Anthem.
