Former Uttarakhand Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Harish Rawat has announced a three-month statewide campaign by the Congress to corner the BJP government over inflation, unemployment and migration, beginning with a march to Raj Bhavan on February 16.
Speaking on the launch of the campaign, Rawat said it would start with “Raj Bhavan Halla Bol” and would involve sustained public outreach across Uttarakhand. The campaign will feature meetings, rallies and awareness programmes highlighting issues affecting the people of the state.
“With ‘Raj Bhavan Halla Bol’ on 16th February, this campaign will begin. For 3 months, we will hold meetings, rallies and other methods to create awareness among the public on the issues people of Uttarakhand are suffering from – corruption, unemployment, inflation, atrocities against women, migration and other issues of concern,” Rawat said.
The announcement comes weeks after senior Congress leaders from Uttarakhand held discussions with party leadership in New Delhi to finalise an organisational roadmap for the state. The meeting was attended by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal, and other senior leaders.
Following the meeting, Congress leader Kumari Selja said the party high command had issued clear directions to the newly constituted Uttarakhand team, stressing unity, coordination and groundwork in preparation for upcoming political challenges.
“Our president, Mallikarjun Kharge and LoP in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, General Secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal and all of us together held discussions. A new team has been formed. What are their thoughts for the future, how the new team will work going forward, they have received directions from the high command,” Selja said.

Meanwhile, Congress workers across the country staged protests against the repeal of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). The party said the scheme had ensured livelihoods for millions and acted as a safety net for rural households.
From the Congress office at 24, Akbar Road to Gandhi Smriti, senior leaders and workers marched in solidarity with farmers, workers and labourers, alleging that their constitutional right to work had been taken away.
The party said it would continue the agitation until the rural employment guarantee scheme is restored. MGNREGA has been replaced by the Viksit Bharat–Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin).
“The MGNREGA Bachao Sangram will continue until the Modi government rolls it back and ensures the constitutional right to work in every hand and fair wages to all the workers,” the party said.
