St. Ann’s High School, Quelossim secured qualification for the 2026-27 State Level Under-14 Girls Table Tennis Tournament after winning the girls’ title, while Regina Mundi High School, Chicalim claimed the boys’ championship at the Mormugao Taluka Cluster 11 Under-14 Table Tennis Tournament held at the Indoor Hall, Chicalim Sports Complex on July 14.
The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
St. Ann’s qualifies for state tournament
St. Ann’s defeated St. Therese’s High School, Mangor Hill, Vasco 3-0 in the girls’ final.
Saachi Gaude opened the tie with an 11-2, 11-1 victory over Aakruti Naik before Silveni Fernandes extended the lead with an 11-2, 11-2 win against Aadhya Mollo.
Denzia Fernandes sealed the championship after recovering from a first-game defeat to overcome Vaishnavi Malik 6-11, 11-9, 11-6, completing a 3-0 victory for St. Ann’s.
The winning squad comprised Nibel Xavier, Saachi Gaude, Denzia Fernandes, Silveni Fernandes and Jonelli Souza. The victory earned St. Ann’s a place in the 2026-27 State Level Under-14 Girls Table Tennis Tournament.
Regina Mundi lifts boys’ title
Ten teams competed in the boys’ tournament, where Regina Mundi High School defeated St. Ann’s High School, Quelossim 3-1 in the final.
Vicky Almeida gave Regina Mundi the early advantage after defeating Freniz Lucas 11-6, 11-8 in the opening singles.
St. Ann’s drew level when Silvano Fernandes beat Adharsh Kandeparkar 11-6, 11-9 in the second singles.
Karl Silveira restored Regina Mundi’s lead with an 11-3, 11-4 victory over Joy DaSilva before Adharsh Kandeparkar clinched the title by defeating Freniz Lucas 11-6, 11-8 in the reverse singles.
The winning Regina Mundi team comprised Shaurya Naik, Karl Silveira, Vicky Almeida and Adharsh Kandeparkar.
Officials present during the tournament included Mangesh B. Load, Assistant Physical Education Officer (APEO), Mormugao Taluka Cluster 11; Manthan V. Adpaikar, Taluka Sports Organiser (TSO), Mormugao Taluka Cluster 11; Jagdish Bandodkar of St. Joseph Institute; Allan Gonsalves of Regina Mundi High School; and Arjun Gali of St. Ann’s High School.
