Vidya Mandir, Chicalim won the Mormugao Taluka Cluster 11 Under-17 Girls Badminton Tournament for the 2026-27 season after defeating St. Joseph High School, Vasco, in the final at the Indoor Hall of the Chicalim Sports Complex.
The tournament was organised by the Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs.
Vidya Mandir secured the title after winning the deciding doubles match in a closely contested final. Khushi Shadani gave Vidya Mandir an early advantage by defeating Ashvi Mesta of St. Joseph High School 21-9, 21-1 in the opening singles.
St. Joseph levelled the tie when Tanishk K. Deval defeated Arthi Chitrapally of Vidya Mandir 21-5, 21-7 in the second singles.
The championship was decided in the doubles, where the Vidya Mandir pairing of Khushi Shadani and Arthi Chitrapally defeated Tanishk Deval and Arya Manjrekar 21-15, 21-15 to clinch the title.
With the victory, Vidya Mandir, Chicalim qualified to represent the cluster at the state-level Under-17 Girls Badminton Tournament for the 2026-27 season.
Present during the event were Rashmi Lobo (Badminton Official), Manthan V. Adpaikar (Taluka Sports Organiser, Mormugao Taluka, Cluster 11), Mytesh Lamani (Physical Education Teacher, Vidya Mandir, Chicalim), Vinayak Korgaonkar (Physical Education Teacher, Vidya Mandir, Chicalim) and Vishal Naik (Physical Education Teacher, New English High School, New Vaddem).
