
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday attended a meeting of the party’s Central Election Committee (CEC) for Puducherry in New Delhi, chaired by party president Mallikarjun Kharge.
The meeting, held at Indira Bhawan, focused on preparations for the upcoming Assembly elections in the Union Territory. Senior leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary K.C. Venugopal, were present.
In a statement, Gandhi said discussions centred on strengthening the party organisation and preparing a roadmap aligned with the needs and aspirations of the people of Puducherry.
On the same day, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also held its Central Election Committee meeting in the national capital. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the meeting along with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and other senior leaders.
The meetings come after the Election Commission announced the schedule for Assembly elections in multiple states and Union Territories, including Puducherry.
Voting in Puducherry is scheduled for April 9. Elections in Assam will also be held on April 9 in a single phase. West Bengal will go to polls in two phases on April 23 and April 29, while Tamil Nadu will vote on April 23. Kerala will also vote on April 9.
The counting of votes for all states and Puducherry will take place on May 4.
