MCC edge Salgaocar; Dempo win big in Goa league

MCC held nerve to beat Salgaocar in a close finish at Porvorim. Dempo dominated Geno as league standings tighten after Round 4.

The fourth round of the Goa Premier Division League 2025-26, organised by the Goa Cricket Association, produced contrasting results with one match going down to the wire and another ending in a one-sided finish.

At the GCA Academy Ground in Porvorim, Margao Cricket Club (MCC) registered a 14-run win over Salgaocar Cricket Club in a closely fought three-day contest. MCC, after winning the toss, posted 293 in their first innings with contributions from Deepraj Gaonkar (81) and Umang Gosavi (71). Salgaocar’s Ruthvik Naik returned with figures of 6 for 54.

Salgaocar were bowled out for 216 in reply, conceding a 77-run lead. In the second innings, MCC were restricted to 119, largely due to Yash Kasvankar’s seven-wicket haul, setting Salgaocar a target of 197.

Chasing the target, Salgaocar were in contention but were eventually dismissed for 182 on the final day. Anuj Yadav led MCC’s bowling effort with 6 for 58 to seal the result. Amulya Pandrekar top-scored with 39, while Yogesh Kauthankar did not bat in the second innings due to injury.

In the other match at the NAPEX ground in Sankhali, Dempo Cricket Club secured an innings and 6-run victory over Geno Sports Club. Geno were bowled out for 121 in their first innings.

Dempo responded with 351, powered by Rahul Mehta (89) and Sarthak Bhike (54). For Geno, Vikas Singh and Manish Kakode picked up four wickets each.

Following on, Geno managed 224 in their second innings, with Manthan Khutkar scoring 84 and Manish Kakode remaining unbeaten on 64. Mohit Yadav took 4 for 66 as Dempo wrapped up the innings to complete the win.

After four rounds, Chowgule Sports Club lead the standings with 15 points, followed by Geno Sports Club with 12. MCC are third with 11 points, while Salgaocar and Dempo have 9 points each. Panjim Gymkhana remain at the bottom and are out of contention for the final with one round remaining.

The top two teams at the end of the fifth round will qualify for the final.
